Whisky

Every region or country has its own regulations for the conditions under which a brand of whisky or whisky may be named. For the main regions of Scotland and Ireland, the European regulation and the regional regulation apply. Other countries have different regulations. Within the European Union, whisky must according to the criteria set out in Regulation No. 110/2008 of January 15, 2008 obtained by distilling cereal malt mash, are distilled to an alcohol content of less than 94.8 percent by volume, Aged for at least three years in wooden barrels with a capacity of 700 liters or less, have a minimum alcohol content of 40 percent by volume.

Jede Region bzw. jedes Land hat eigene Regelungen dafür, unter welchen Bedingungen ein Brand Whisky bzw. Whiskey genannt werden darf. Für die Hauptregionen Schottland und Irland gelten die europäische Verordnung sowie die regionale Verordnung. Andere Länder haben hiervon abweichende Bestimmungen. Innerhalb der Europäischen Union muss Whisky laut den in der Verordnung Nr. 110/2008 vom 15. Januar 2008 festgelegten Kriterien durch Destillieren von Getreidemalzmaische gewonnen sein, zu einem Alkoholgehalt von weniger als 94,8 Volumenprozent destilliert werden, mindestens drei Jahre lang in Holzfässern mit einem Fassungsvermögen von 700 Litern oder weniger reifen, einen Mindestalkoholgehalt von 40 Volumenprozent aufweisen.
