The whiskys from the Mortlach distillery are characterized by the special 2.7-fold distillation process, as its owner Diageo calls it.
They are almost reminiscent of the old Irish triple distilled pure pot still whiskeys, which are light yet complex.
Mortlach has always been bottled by independent bottlers in Scotland.
There used to be original bottlings here and there via the Flor & Fauna series, today there are original bottlings very irregularly.
Most of the production of this small distillery in the Highlands goes into blend production, as with almost all distilleries in Scotland.
In this respect, an independent bottling is the primary opportunity to get a Mortlach single malt.
At 13 years old, the single malt from the MCCRAES Single Cask series has the typical character of the distillery.
